Did you know that only 1 in 30 Australians regularly donate blood but 1 in 3 Australians will need blood products some time in their lifetime?
Well now you do.
Did you also know that the Australian Red Cross Blood Service is currently urgently seeking blood donors to help deal with dangerously low blood stocks?
Well now you do. In fact for some blood types there is less than a days supply in all of Australia. That is bad.
I can’t give blood now due to the whole pregnancy thing so I’m asking all of you lot to do so on my behalf, especially if you live in Australia!
If you are eligible to donate, please call 13 14 95 TODAY to book in a time to donate. It doesn’t take long and you get milkshakes and muffins!
UPDATE
Heard on the radio this morning that there is less than 36 hours of O Negative blood supply in the whole of Australia and the Red Cross is URGENTLY seeking blood donors to come in and meet demand. Apparently they need 21,000 donations every week!
So if you haven’t donated in the last 3 months and you are an eligible donor, call now! 13 14 95 that’s 13 14 95

I had to share this one I saw on Scoop, some square dancer took Holmes to the BSA after he called the Greens square dancers. This guy found that to be quite offensive. He he.

I promised I wouldn’t blog about being pregnant, so I won’t tell you all that I’m starting to get fat and all that crap. But I will tell you about my new hobby!
I decided I needed to learn some kind of craft (why do I already feel I have to prove myself to this thing? It isn’t even born!), and I decided to learn cross stitch ’cause it seemed a whole lot easier than knitting. (more…)

Facts getting in the middle of a good story

In the weekend I had the gorgeous pleasure of going to the Regent Theatre to see a film as a part of the International Film Festival. Wow what a stunning venue!
And I’m slightly suprised to say that I highly recommend going to see ‘An Inconvenient Truth’. This is of course the film made by Al Gore about Climate Change. And it is very well made. (more…)

Sponsor a Snail
August 8, 2006 · 3 Comments
The Save Happy Valley Coalition have come up with a great new fundraiser. And they’re offering up a guided tour. I know quite a few people that have been down there (or are still there) and it’s apparently an amazing place. It would be really stupid to put a coal mine there…
Help the Save Happy valley campaign by purchasing a Powelliphanta Augustus snail sponsorship certificate. Only costs $10 and is limited to only 500 snails, and you get to name your sponsored snail. All proceeds go towards Save Happy Valleys judicial review of conservation minister Chris Carter’s decision to allow state-owned miners to remove this threatened snail species from its home on the west Coast to get the coal from underneath.
Check the website for more details.

I’m sure most people would’ve heard by now that Ian Ewen-Street has joined the National Party *snigger* So much for retiring from politics to spend more time with his family…
I’ve certainly had plenty of emails and text messages from people going ‘oh my god!’. Now I don’t know about most people but I wasn’t surprised in the least. (more…)

Indoctrination

Well today is a special day. It is now 9 months since I’ve been in Australia.
On an irrelevant note, last night I went shopping for various things, among them was an egg beater. Now I’ve been trying to get an egg beater for some time now (in pursuit of the perfect biscuit..) and they are really, really hard to find. I’d previously been to two different department stores and they didn’t have any.
Last night I took a deep breath and went to Target to hunt one down. I went to the utensil aisle and they had so many different utensils but not one single egg beater! I flagged down a shop assistant and asked if they had a secret stash somewhere. She had a look at the aisle (just in case my eyes don’t work I guess) and then went ‘ooh, they’re over here!’ and took me to the electric egg beaters. I told her I didn’t want an electric one and she looked at me as if I was Amish and then walked off with out another word.
So I left and trudged dejectedly up the street thinking that I was never going to find one. Finally I found a kitchen ware store and walked in. The man smiled as I entered and asked me how I was going and if he could help. I said ‘yes I’m looking for an egg beater’ and he said ‘ooh you’re in luck I have one here’. So I finally found one!
I relayed my now resolved plight to the man in the shop and he sympathised with my frustrations. Apparently it’s equally hard to source egg beaters these days. Noone wants to lovingly beat their eggs anymore! It’s all about electric appliances and egg beaters happen to be one of the cheapest you can get so the hand operated models are losing the battle.
What is the world coming to?
More to the point, what the hell is happening to me if I am getting this obsessed with hand operated kitchen utensils.
