Yay Wellington

February 26, 2007 · 5 Comments

Sounds like the Cuba Carnival was fun. Especially with quotes like this in the paper:

Dance troupe Real Hot Bitches believes it broke a world record for the largest number of people to participate in synchronised dancing, with 1852 jiving in Courtenay Place to Bon Jovi’s Shot Through the Heart. The Guinness world record is 876.

Nice!

Solar system seniority

February 22, 2007 · 2 Comments

Cool, if I lived on Mercury I’d be 172 years old. And if I lived on Pluto, my first birthday wouldn’t be until 2228.

This site calculates your age and birthday according to different planets in our solar system. It also explains the science of the whole thing for those of you who care about more than a short [e]thrill.

Presenting…

February 20, 2007 · 13 Comments

May I introduce to you all my lovely new daughter, Tara.

She’s seriously clever and beautiful and adorable and magical and all those other words that parents use (but I mean extra ’cause of course, Tara is that extra wee bit special than all the other babies!)

Tara

Tara was born on the 7th of February 2007, weighing 8lb 11oz or 4kg. And she rocks!

A dear friend of mine helped make this party invitation. It’s rather amusing, I recommend a view. Apparently it’s beginning to do the rounds amongst American teenagers so who knows, it might be the next YouTube hit…

Soppy baby stuff

February 6, 2007 · 7 Comments

I decided that since the baby is half Australian and has TONS of Aotearoa type clothes toys etc that I should make an effort to balance things up a bit. So I stitched a couple of blank baby items with Gumnut Baby patterns that I got out of a book of Classic Storybook patterns.

I know, it’s not exactly radical, but incredibly cute. You can see more here.

A funny interlude

February 5, 2007 · 1 Comment

When you’re five days overdue giving birth it’s always best to find some things to make you laugh. So aside from Jane Clifton’s latest Listener column (NZ – the geographical equivalent of short man’s syndrome. Fuckin genius), I thought I’d surf the net a bit and see if I could find some funny stuff. Or at least interesting stuff. I tried watching a funny movie but I think they stopped making them.

So mad props to Matt at Journeys In Between for introducing Satirical Muslim. That had me in stitches and I can’t wait to read more!

Also Bono Fatigue. “This site is for U2 fans suffering from Bono Fatigue as a result of an over-consumption of U2 music, Bono interviews, Africa-related relief ideas etc.” feckin genius!

For those of you with deep unanswered spiritual questions there’s a good God FAQ here. (The answer is not 42 – although that was our number at the fush and chup shop the other night, which was pretty exciting. Except I think the girl behind the counter thought we were crazy..).

Finally, if you can’t be bothered watching a movie, watch some bunnies reenact it in 30 seconds. Much less painful and mildly amusing.

OK I’m off to drive over bumpy roads now.

Happy Waitangi Day

Shock and Awe!

I did the ol What Kind of Anarchist Are You? quiz (hattip: stanselen) and surprise surprise, I’m an anarcha-feminist:

You scored as Anarcha-Feminist.

Anarcha-feminists put a strong emphasis on the importance of patriarchy, arguing that all forms of hierarchy can be traced back to man’s domination over woman. Although associated with the 1960s, the movement has its roots in the theories of Emma Goldman and Voltarine DeCleyre.

Anarcha-Feminist 95%
Anarcho-Communist 70%
Anarcho-Syndicalist 45%
Anarcho-Primitivist 45%
Christian Anarchist 40%
Anarcho-Capitalist 25%

Don’t be gay now m’kay?

February 2, 2007 · Leave a Comment

A friend of mine sent me a link today to the most wonderful website. It’s called Love God’s Way and it’s made by a guy called Donnie Davies. Apparently Donnie has it under good authority that god hate’s fags and his website has this wonderful resource for parents:

One of the most dangerous ways homosexuality invades family life is through popular music. Parents should keep careful watch over their children’s listening habits, especially in this Internet Age of MP3 piracy.

This is followed by a large list of musicians, both contemporary and a bit older, which one should keep your children away from. It is rather amusing. Elton John’s on there twice! He must be really gay!!

Anyhoo, I checked out Donnie’s personal website and HE LOOKS SO FUCKING GAY! No shit, he could be in the village people or something. In fact, with that pink shirt and moustache he’s got going on, he looks awfully like Big Gay Al.

I think I need to go edit my iTunes Library now…
