Mad Crazy Knitting Riots
April 24, 2007 · Leave a Comment
Yay, so in the weekend I went to the Melbourne Social Forum and was involved with running a workshop on the craft revolution. It was heaps of fun and we all got to learn how to knit with plastic bags!! Totally revolutionary that!!
And I saw that embroidery is certainly catching on around the traps. I met this guy with an amazing embroidered denim suit. I didn’t get a very good photo of it but this will give you an idea…

Finally I found this wee piece on the Earthsharing Australia stall. I was pleased to see my ranting about radical cross stitch has been rubbing off on some people I know

And I must say the MSF was awesome fun. I learn’t heaps and did some great networking. And had a great time stitching! Can’t wait til next year.

I mean business
April 20, 2007 · 4 Comments
So I’ve decided to try my luck making a wee bit of cash with my cross stitch and embroidery. I really want a sewing machine so if I sell some stuff I can save up and buy myself one (independent woman and all that!).
So I’ve started a wee business called Radical Rags – Recycled clothes with a radical bent. Embroidery for Eco Warriors. Cross Stitch for the Conscious Crew.
You can visit the website here and the Mintd shop here.
There’s not much ‘product’ at this stage but I’ve got lots planned. I’m pretty busy finishing an exhibition piece at the moment and that must take up all my stitching time until it’s finished. Then I can start churning out some bits and pieces for sale. I’m planning on making big things and little things so there’ll be stuff for all budgets. And I’m happy to make stuff on request, within reason.
So next time you’re wondering what to get your favourite activist for their birthday, you know where to look!
Feedback welcome
Oh, and I made a gallery (finally), not sure on the slide show, let me know what you think.

WTF Flags

WTF flags in progress 5,
originally uploaded by jinksb.
Check out these groovy wee flags. Designed with the cubicle office floor plan in mind, they could have multiple uses. Like when it’s time to do the dishes, or a tram inspector wants to see your ticket, or you’re in the middle of a philosophy exam. Potentials are limitless! See how to make them here.

How exciting!!!!!!!!!
I’d say more but I’m typing with one hand and jiggling a ten week old baby with the other (she says hi).
Love you all xox

End Racism
April 11, 2007 · 8 Comments
I finished my first ‘grown-up’ item of clothing and I’m so stoked how it turned out. Inspired by the Open Source Embroidery Project, I’ve done the HTML for ‘end racism’ onto a hoodie.

This is a close up of the text which I did with chain stitch, which is quite puffy and cool.

I also did blanket stitch around the hood to make it a bit more interesting.
It’s so cool to be wearing something I helped create! I’m extremely inspired now and I’m going to be stitching more clothes for grown ups (sorry Tara). I’ve been brainstorming heaps so look out for the new clothing label soon.
So how much would you be willing to pay for this?
P.S. Thanks Rosa for being a great model!

Scoopit representing
April 5, 2007 · 9 Comments
In technological news I’m currently trying out a new browser called Camino, which is Camino doing it for the Mac posse. It promises to be fast and definitely lives up to that promise. It’s pretty stripped back compared to Firefox which helps. It does mean a ‘low-tech’ browser in terms of add-ons etc but I think that’s kind of good for me for a while. I tried it finally cause my laptop (Mad Maxine) is finally starting to suffer from being dropped a couple of times and having one really big drink one day and is running very badly. But since I can’t afford to replace it, I’m making do.
In geeky web news the cool kids over at Scoop have got this Scoopit thing going now which is like NZs answer to Reddit. All I have to say is finally, thank fuck and woohoo rad! So now you can see that little Scoopit thing at the bottom of this post (go on, click it, I know you want to…).
But the button thing isn’t going on cause I’m using wordpress.com. Which of course gives me another reason to stop using wordpress.com and get my own schizzle going on. I’m hoping some kind person might hook me up with my own domain name and hosting for my birthday. That would be totally cool.
Then I can continue to be cool and blog on the start of a long weekend…

I think therefore I sometimes get around to blogging

So Rosa Sparx has gone and got herself a THINKING BLOGGER AWARD and thinks she can now bestow this honour on everyone she knows (thanks hon!). Which makes it really easy for the rest of us to find 5 people to consequently pass the honour on to! But I managed it and still included a Melburnian!
Firstly, I have to give an award to Maia, cause she always comes up with the brilliant feminist analysis that I always want to but don’t have the time nor the attention span to muster…
Next has to be Newtown Ghetto Anger cause not only is there plenty of thinking going on at this blog but it also manages to condense itself into three pane comics! Only wish I was that clever!
Number three goes to my sister Span who seems to be the only blogging womyn that I know of that’s been around as long as me and is still blogging on the same site. And this blog also contains equally on-to-it analysis of things that I always want to write about…
Number four goes to Hammy cause he does heaps of smart stuff taking down the Lobbyocracy and has some weird Chuck Norris thing going on. Hey Hammy hope you saw the Chasers last night. Chuck Norris presenting on Fox! Holy Crap!
Last but certainly not least I give a thinking blogger award to One Tenacious Baby Mama who, in the last days of my pregnancy, inspired the hell out of me and I give some serious credit to for helping Tara’s birth go nice and smoothly.
Now all you folk have to :
1. If, and only if, you get tagged, write a post with 5 blogs that make you think;
2. Link to this post so that people can find the exact origin of the meme; (which I haven’t done cause I don’t know where it started..)
3. Optional: Poudly display the “Thinking Blogger Award” with a link to the post that you wrote (there is a silver version if gold doesn’t fit your blog);
4. Your chosen blogs cannot have been previously awarded.
And in honour of my newly bestowed thinkiness I have the following exciting news to share with you.
Today I fitted into a pair of pants that I have from before I was pregnant!! Woohoo!!

Wow I just realised that while I read it all the time, I didn’t have a link to Miss Politics!
It must be all the drugs…
Situation remedied. As you were.
