Ripping up mad shit

June 29, 2007 · Leave a Comment

A mate from Camp Sovereignty has spent the last few months kicking it round Afghanistan teaching photojournalism to locals. Awesome project!

But his latest post about skateboarding lessons is seriously cool. Talking about healing a space!

I just love the guy on the screen, top left.

Go Travis!

Weirdest $10 ever spent

June 27, 2007 · 11 Comments

We went to the Coburg Trash and Treasure Market in the weekend. It was seriously worth the effort! Despie the freezing cold (first thing I bought was gloves and a woolly hat), we had a riot of a time buying pieces of useless and useful stuff.

But I reckon the best score was this crazy koala lamp. Never seen anything like it and I did a bit of a web search and couldn’t find anything remotely similar. We almost need to have a party just to show it off I reckon.

OK so turned off it looks pretty cool, though slightly odd…

But then turn it on and it’s like a possessed demon!

I LOVE IT!

My Own Needlecase

May 8, 2007 · 6 Comments

It doesn’t take long when you get into Radical Cross Stitch to start leaving needles everywhere, especially in the arms of couches. My partner had started to make some subtle observations about the hazards of sitting on the couch. So when I saw this wonderful tutorial at Crafting Chaos I knew I had to make myself one. And I thought it was about time I made myself something. So I’m calling this my own Mother’s Day present.

I’m quite proud of this one, I think it’s really ‘pretty’ and I used mostly scrap materials to make it.

Cross Stitch Bling

May 3, 2007 · Leave a Comment

I’ve been wanting to post this for ages but I gave this to someone without taking a photo first and I only just got round to going to her house ith a camera!

So presenting “Cross Stitch Bling”

Cross Stitch bling

Back

Bling back

Basically this is a patch that can be attached to anything; bag, t-shirt, whatever.  And I gave it in a small woven box so you can also use that as a frame and just have it as an ornament.

It took me a couple of hours. Stitching with silver thread is quite difficult ’cause it’s really stiff but it’s worth the effort ’cause it comes out all shiny. And I like shiny things!

Riiight

Saw this stuck to a car in St Kilda. Quite possibly the weirdest company advert I’ve ever seen.

Swordfighting International?

Sure that would’ve made some great team building in some of my previous jobs!

End Racism

April 11, 2007 · 8 Comments

I finished my first ‘grown-up’ item of clothing and I’m so stoked how it turned out. Inspired by the Open Source Embroidery Project, I’ve done the HTML for ‘end racism’ onto a hoodie.

This is a close up of the text which I did with chain stitch, which is quite puffy and cool.

I also did blanket stitch around the hood to make it a bit more interesting.

It’s so cool to be wearing something I helped create! I’m extremely inspired now and I’m going to be stitching more clothes for grown ups (sorry Tara). I’ve been brainstorming heaps so look out for the new clothing label soon.

So how much would you be willing to pay for this?

P.S. Thanks Rosa for being a great model!

May I introduce to you all my lovely new daughter, Tara.

She’s seriously clever and beautiful and adorable and magical and all those other words that parents use (but I mean extra ’cause of course, Tara is that extra wee bit special than all the other babies!)

Tara

Tara was born on the 7th of February 2007, weighing 8lb 11oz or 4kg. And she rocks!

OK so it’s been a while..

January 11, 2007 · 2 Comments

Little known fact: I originally set up this blog because I wanted to get into the habit of writing so I might just maybe start writing better.

Little did I know that I was about to fill a void in the NZ blogosphere by writing about political issues from a Green perspective. Which, at the time, no one else was doing or was better placed to be doing. So after a wee while I noticed that there was a few people not only reading my blog, but continuing to read my blog. So I just kept on writing about what was going on from a Green perspective. But not as much of my writing was as analytical as I would have liked, I just didn’t have time.

Now things have changed. I don’t work there any more. There are other Green blogs. There are other things too but those are the main two.

So I’ve decided that this year I’m going to take some time to get a bit more disciplined in my writing. So consider this me re-enacting a new years resolution from a few years ago. And you can all get excited about seeing me write more! Well, I will anyway… (more…)

New cool blog

January 3, 2007 · 1 Comment

May I introduce Insultadarity, a new blog from a friend of mine. So far it’s proving to be exceptionally hilarious, so I recommend you check it out. I particularly recommend the reasons to give up smoking, very good!

I look forward to reading more!
