It’s billboard time!

To celebrate Te Wiki o Te Reo Maori, the Greens have launched their first billboard. I think it’s gorgeous! Metiria said

“This billboard is a tongue-in-cheek representation of a whakatauki – sometimes translated as ‘many hands make light work’,” Mrs Turei says.“It describes the Greens commitment to work together with tangata whenua on te Tiriti issues and to help to forge a new relationship between tangata whenua and tangata tiriti premised on te Tiriti o Waitangi.”

“This billboard carries our key voting message for Maori this election – that you can have the best of both worlds by giving your Maori electorate vote to your favoured local candidate and your Party Vote to the Greens.

Nice!

  1. well kakariki, Green competing with Maori is a sure way to reduce your votes, this is one of the dumbest moves ever, i post elesewhere the startling news that New Zealand is an english speaking country, and this sign defines you as extremist, extremist because you are calling yourself Greens but you are not,

  2. I’d rather be an extremist than a racist 😉

  3. peterquixote…..

Someone with a blog as bad as yours has no place commenting on anything.

    You make even less there.

  4. well peterquixote, if new Zealndis indeed a english speaking country, you seem to fail at writing it down.

  6. Oh poor Peter

Feeling all oppressed? That would be probably what it feels like to have your culture and language attacked, hmm, sounds remarkably like colonisation to me. FYI, Te Reo is an official language of this country. In fact, I hear people speaking it all the time and to be honest, I really don’t find that threatening. But maybe that is because I have learnt about my own colonialist heritage, learnt about structural discrimination and have committed my life to taking responsibility for my own behaviour and embracing the cultures of other people, rather than being afraid of them. If you seriously think the Greens are extremist because they are using te reo on their billboards then you must think that every Government department including parliament is extremist because they all use te reo.

Sorry I didn’t respond constructively to your first comment but to be honest I can’t be bothered trying to reason with racist crap. Which is exactly what your comment was, if you don’t understand, try some Treaty education.

  21. Dear anonymous (the last one)

Thank you for you constructive criticism. I am not quite sure what you mean by abusing my buddy peter. OK I called him names but that was only after I tried being patient and reasonable and was rewarded with a tirade of very offensive abuse. Offensive not just to myself but other people. The comments he made were not only in breach of the law but he was also condoning violence against people. That I will not tolerate. I have given him an opportunity to apologise, which he has chosen to ignore. I will be taking action on this in the morning, at which point this saga will disapear from this blog.
