Boats, Bees and Books

Today’s post brought to you by the letter B.

For those of you who were previously unsure about the effects of bottom trawling on our ocean floors.  Check out this picture taken from space.  This photo is of bottom trawling fishing boats off the coast of China.  This photo really demonstrates the brutal reality of how bottom trawling is decimating our ocean floors.

In not so surprising news, it turns out that organic bees seem to be surviving whatever it is that is killing the industrial colonies.  This story is certainly an interesting example as to why massive industrialisation of natural processes is a totally flawed idea.

Finally, check out Katipo Books.  This is the new online radical bookstore to come from Outautahi, which is co-op run and specialises in independent books.  Great place to visit if your brain is in need of new ideas and inspiration.

Yay I’m in the country for the next week and then moving house, so don’t expect to hear too much from me for a wee while.

Over and out.
